How fast do agents usually reply after you request a viewing?

Been house-hunting for a rental the past few weeks and noticed something odd - a few listings I messaged for a viewing slot took 2-3 days to reply, by which time the unit was already taken. Others replied within the hour and I got to view the same week.

Is there a "normal" turnaround time to expect when requesting a viewing, or does it just depend on the agent? A few units I asked about had multiple people requesting the same dates, so I'm guessing popular units get flooded with requests.

Curious what others do to speed things up - do you call directly instead of messaging, or give a specific date/time upfront instead of "anytime this week"? Also wondering if it's normal to offer 2-3 backup slots in one message so the agent doesn't have to go back and forth.

Would appreciate tips from anyone who rents/leases regularly, or agents who can share what actually works on your end to prioritize replies.
